HOLLAND — In the competition for workers, one West Michigan manufacturer is pushing to the front of the pack with free healthcare.

LG Energy Solution has announced 100 percent company-paid healthcare, including medical, dental and vision. Less than 5 percent of U.S. employers offer medical coverage with no contribution from employees, the company said in a release Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The move translates into hundreds of dollars a month per family, and will be available for full-time employees and their eligible dependents, effective Jan. 1.

“LG Energy Solution is not only paving the path for a more sustainable future through the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, this move demonstrates our commitment to investing in the futures of our employees and their families,” said President Charles (Oh Young) Hyun.

“This is also great for the Michigan economy as LG continues to recruit top talent to support the growing electric vehicle industry and our facility’s expansion in Holland.”

The annual savings for full-time employees will range from $156 to $2,466, the company said. LG already offers no-contribution dental and vision benefits, and already offered no-contribution medical benefits to employees in Hazel Park and Troy.

LG Energy Solution Michigan hosts its largest location in Holland, with 1,500 employees. The company is investing $1.7 billion to build a second battery manufacturing plant there, expanding its production capacity fivefold.
